Long term, the industry needs to move into a new phase: polymers, materials, and new applications designed for sustainability. We need to re-think our value chains from the current linear to a circular model. We need to re-model our processes for use of sustainable energy and renewable sourced raw material streams.

In this volatile world of high uncertainty, companies have to deliver new innovations to the market faster and with a higher ROI than their competitors.This is a great challenge for our industry, but also an opportunity to innovate and to create new business models. 

Disruptive new digital technologies, like big data applications or artificial intelligence, will help to facilitate these transitions. But this so-called 4th industrial transformation calls for disruptive change in how we organize work, how we create a business, and how we collaborate. The nature of work changes—on organizational as well as on an individual level.
